Imagine an alternate universe where romance and technology reign. Where tinkerers and dreamers craft and recraft a world of automatons, ornate clockworks, calculating machines, and other marvels that never were. Where scientists and schoolgirls, fair folk and Romans, intergalactic bandits, Utopian revolutionaries, and intrepid orphans — decked out in corsets, clockwerk suits, and tall black boots — solve dastardly crimes, escape from monstrous predicaments, consult oracles, and hover over volcanoes in steam-powered airships. Here, in the first major steampunk anthology for young adults, fourteen masters of speculative fiction, including two graphic storytellers, embrace the genre’s established blend of sci-fi and fantasy, action and adventure, history and romance, and refashion it in surprising ways and in settings as diverse as Canada, New Zealand, Appalachia, Wales, ancient Rome, future Australia, and alternate California. Visionaries Link and Grant have invited all-new interpretations, explorations, and expansions, taking a genre already rich, strange, and inventive in the extreme and challenging contributors to remake it from the ground up. The result is an anthology that defies even as it defines the genre. With fantastically strange stories by M. T. Anderson, Holly Black, Libba Bray, Shawn Cheng, Cassandra Clare, Cory Doctorow, Dylan Horrocks, Kathleen Jennings, Elizabeth Knox, Kelly Link, Garth Nix, Christopher Rowe, Delia Sherman, and Ysabeau S. Wilce. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Sarah Coomes, Nico Evers-Swindell, Shannon McManus, Arthur Morey. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/brll/003331/bk_brll_003331_sample.mp3. New York Times best-selling author Nicole Edwards is heating things up with Boots Optional, a sexy ménage novella - and the first book in the sizzling-hot Dead Heat Ranch series. Grace Lambert is familiar with hard work, long days, and handsome cowboys. She's been working for her family's dude ranch since she was old enough to ride a horse, and she's not afraid to get her hands dirty. What she is afraid of is the heat that's been growing between her and not one but two sexy cowboys who've set their sights on her... and each other. Grant Kingsley and Lane Miller have both had their eyes on Gracie for years, but the feisty cowgirl has managed to keep them at bay. As far as they are concerned, cowboys don't give up, and neither of them is ready to just yet - not on her and not on the heat between the two of them. Find out what happens when the sultry Texas nights get as hot as the fierce Texas days. Note: This novella was previously published in the Some Like It Hot Anthology. Although the story has not changed, this version contains a short bonus scene. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Vanessa Edwin, J. D. Franklin, Gus Evans. Cat Stories

Playful kittens and ruthless predators, beloved pets and witches' familiars - cats of all kinds come alive in these stories. Maeve Brennan and Alice Adams movingly explore what cats can mean to their humans, while writers as varied as Patricia Highsmith and Fritz Leiber imagine the intriguingly alien feline point of view. Cats flaunt their undeniable superiority in Angela Carter's bawdy retelling of 'Puss-in-Boots' and Stephen Vincent Benet's uncanny 'The King of the Cats', while humour abounds in tales by comic masters P. G. Wodehouse and Saki. The essential unknowableness of cats inspires the most exotic flights of fancy: Calvino's secret city of cats in 'The Garden of Stubborn Cats', the disappearing animal in Ursula K. LeGuin's brain-teasing 'Schrodinger's Cat', the cartoon rodent and his cartoon nemesis in Steven Millhauser's 'Cat 'n' Mouse'. In these and other stories, this delightful anthology offers cat lovers a many-faceted tribute to the beguilingly mysterious objects of their affection.

An anthology of selected plays for young audiences,Second edition, revised. Many consider Max Bush to be the fountainhead of the renaissance in playwriting for young audiences. His sensitivity to current themes and the modern idiom infuses a contemporary appeal into all of his works. His poetic and muscular style of writing pushes aside 'the sugary breakfast cereal' approach to children's theatre. His many uses of modern drama techniques serve to grab and hold the attention of young audiences. The ten full-length plays in this book are adaptations of classics, heroic fantasy adventures and drama dealing with social and psychological issues for youngsters. Plays include: Ghost of the River House; Hansel and Gretel, the Little Brother and the Little Sister; The Emerald Circle; Puss in Boots; 13 Bells of Boglewood; The Crystal; The Boy Who Left Home to Find Out About the Shivers; Rockway Cafe; Rapunzel; Voyage of the Dragonfly.

This anthology contains: - The Training: Tess - The Training: Sylvie - The Training: Star - The Training: Mysti Excerpt: WHEN SHE ADMITTED TO hurting three other young women who came to me for help. I stood up from the round table, The chair behind me scooted back. My hands were clenched into fists, although I then forced them to relax. The atmosphere in that main room of the Western saloon went cool, or it felt so to me. I had three girls upstairs who had gone unconscious, all of which possessed unique supernatural abilities. Bending time and space. A trained warrior who could throw disintegrating fireballs from her bare hands. And the last was able to generate the heat and radiation of a star in space. And here was the person who admitted to knocking them all out, burning two of them, and various cuts to their bodies through bulletproof clothing. For me to get into any physical conflict with her would be foolhardy at best. Suicidal at worst. Hami and Gaia also stood at this. Gaia was more to worry about than any of us in the room. But her skills as an Earth goddess were a bit of a blunt instrument. Sinking whole continents at a gesture was more her trademark. Hami was better at cooking and healing - but it was her and I standing there that kept Gaia from taking any action, regardless of how she felt about this stranger. The golden-headed woman lowered her insulated hood and padded toward us in soft-soled, high-topped boots. 'I've heard about you, John of the Ghost Hunters, and read all about the Lazurai you've written up. Those two factors brought me here. And, as much as it may have just upset you, I've come to you for help. 'Because I'm dying.' Scroll Up and Get Your Copy Now.

Four women, with unique super-abilities - who each could save or destroy humankind. Each came to this planet for their own reasons, deeply flawed. Victims of time and circumstance. Any one of these, just by themselves, could end all life on this planet in a heartbeat. Why would anyone want to assemble a team of feminine time bombs? Maybe to get them to save their own lives... (Contains the complete 4-part anthology.) Excerpt: I looked at Gaia worried face, and then to Hami's. 'Would it do any good to see the crater where it happened?' Gaia shook her head 'no'. 'If you consider this table the crater...' She places the salt and pepper shakers near the center, and a paper napkin dispenser to one side, half way to the table edge. 'Tess and Silvie were in the middle, Star was up on the side.' She tipped the pieces on their sides to show roughly how the girl's bodies were laying. The salt and pepper shakers were laying at right angles to each other. 'And Star was face down?' 'Yes, and her head was toward the edge of the crater.' I considered this. 'So their burns weren't necessarily from Star.' 'Unless she burned them first and then was moving away.' '...and went unconscious afterward, like she collapsed when we found her.' Hami put her hand on top of mine. She knew how much I was taking this personally, by how I was forcing myself to study the 'crime scene'. Gaia looked over the positioning again. 'But we didn't see tracks behind her, and the radiation wasn't any higher than normal. If it had been, Jean and I would have drenched that place in water to cool it off, like last time.' 'That clothing they all wore was nearly tear-proof. The tessies made it, and it's more like a woven steel that a bullet couldn't even get through. Yet their clothing was ripped on all of them. The only thing that could do that would be the tessies themselves.' Gaia raised an eyebrow at that.'But aren't they friendly to Tess? Like almost part of her? Her clothing shouldn't have been torn.' 'And as well, I've seen Silvie's fireballs dissolve a thick, braided cord of that stuff. If Star had gone 'nova' on them, it would have melted that side of their clothing.' Rochelle scooted her chair closer to mine, and put her arm around the back of it. 'Not exactly a locked-door mystery, but close.' I nodded. 'All this points to someone else being present and causing this somehow.' The screen door swung open at that, and we all heard some soft feet pad in on the tongue-and-groove wood floor. A green hood of her insulated jacket covered straight strawberry-blond hair, parted in the middle. That all framed a pair of light green eyes, a petite nose, and full rose-red lips. Her soft-soled, brown leather boots climbed up her legs to disappear beneath the bottom edge of the long, quilted jacket. Her look was serious, but calm as she took in the three of us. 'That someone else – would be me.' (Contains the complete 4-part anthology.) Scroll Up and Get Your Copy Now.
